Battery Park City Authority

ACC was selected to construct the Play Yard adjacent to Battery Park City’s PS/IS 89 along West Street in Manhattan. The design demanded the seamless integration of the new Play Yard with the existing building. ACC had to match all existing materials exactly. The Play Yard has radial piers made from fitted custom brick and precast stone. There is a trellis that spans from pier to pier made out of shop milled steel and South American climate resistant wood. Between the piers there is a custom fence made to appear more as a decorative element than a means of security. The asymmetrical lines, integration of community art and subdued colors allow this project to act as a worthy face piece for the existing building.
